Hywel Dda plans to close our surgery.
We are coming together, as a community, to stop this from happening and we need your help!
Hard to believe, but at this time in 1948 the public were being encouraged to sign up with a GP in anticipation of the NHS starting up in July. Here we are in 2026 fighting to save Meddygfa’r Sarn from closure. Free at the point of use for almost 80 years, yet Hywel Dda seem happy to make our ‘point of use’ inaccessible to many patients who rely on public transport. Come to stand with us on Tuesday and then tell the Health Board that they have forgotten their duty of care to this community.
HUNDREDS OF RESIDENTS ATTEND EVENTS TO SHOW OPPOSITION TO PROPOSAL TO CLOSE MEDDYGFA’R SARN, PONTYATES
Over 100 supporters gathered outside Meddygfa’r Sarn for the Cwtsho’r Sarn solidarity event on Tuesday 24th February. During the afternoon hundreds of residents also attended a drop-in engagement session organised by Hywel Dda in the nearby hall.
Meddygfa’r Sarn GP Surgery provides essential General Medical Services to patients in Pontyates and the surrounding rural area. Hywel Dda University Health Board will consider proposals to review current arrangements and potentially disperse patients to neighbouring GP practices from 30 June 2026.
No final decision has been made. We, the residents, are concerned about increased travel distances and reduced continuity of care.
Please help by signing our petition which you can find here.
What can you do to help?
We are also looking for people to help distribute flyers and gather signatures so if you are free to help please do drop us a message on facebook or email: admin@saveoursurgery.uk
This doesn’t just affect Pontyates. This also affects the surrounding areas whose surgeries wil be impacted by over 4,000 extra patients being distributed between them.
